Varanasi (Benares) - a major Hindu and Buddhist holy city.
This sacred land was the setting for Yukio Mishima's “The Sea of Fertility” and Shusaku Endo's “The Deep River” and remains a favorite destination for many travelers.
Located approximately 820 km southeast of the capital Delhi and 700 km northwest of Calcutta, it is roughly halfway between the main railroad line and National Highway 2, which connects the two megacities.
It is said that there are nearly 1,500 Hindu temples of various sizes and more than 270 mosques in the city of Varanasi, which stretches around the holy Ganga. More than one million worshippers visit the city each year to purify themselves at the stepped ghats that stretch for about 500 km along the west bank of the Ganges River and worship at the city's temples.
Ganges River - Varanasi's biggest attraction is the Ganges River. Bathing in the Ganges is the biggest dream of Hindus, not just travelers.

Since the age of ukiyoe, woodblock prints have been created through the division of labor between the engraver, the slitter, and the painter.
Seeking the possibility of woodblock prints as a newer form of expression, Hiroshi Yoshida believed that if he was to use craftsmen, he himself had to be more than that, and he completed his own prints, which he himself engraved and printed.
