◾️ Zojoji Temple
"Shiba Zojoji Temple" - Twenty Views of Tokyo This is a Jodo sect temple that was moved to Shiba when Ieyasu established the Tokugawa Shogunate.
As a time of war and great sacrifice came to an end, prayers were offered for the dead and for a peaceful future.
This is the family temple of the Shogun family, and is also the temple where the protagonists of the historical drama "Oe: Princesses of the Warring States" - Oe and her husband Hideyori - are buried.
It is the only building that retains traces of the early Edo period and has been designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan.
Shiba Zojoji, depicting the front of Zojoji Temple's temple gate in a snowstorm, was the first of the Twenty Views of Tokyo and was the most popular and most frequently printed.
◾️ Hiraizumi Konjikido
Hiraizumi Golden Hall (last work)
Hiraizumi in Iwate Prefecture, where the Golden Hall is located, is registered as a World Heritage Site.
During the late Heian period, Hiraizumi was a prosperous capital that rivaled Kyoto in size and splendor.
The Golden Hall of Chusonji Temple is a gorgeous hall covered in gold leaf and intricate mother-of-pearl work, and is said to have been built so that one could see the Pure Land in this world.
In order to see the paradise on earth, people in times gone by climbed the long slopes and steps to the enclosure that protected the Golden Hall.
Hiraizumi Konjikido was Kawase Hasui's final creation.
It is said that Hasui depicted himself in the monk climbing the hill.
◾️ Kiyomizu temple
The main hall of Kiyomizu-dera Temple is known for Kuryuki's "Jumping off the Kiyomizu Stage."
The cliff on which the hall is built has a legend similar to an Indian story in which Kannon appeared on a cliff.
The stage that juts out into the air has long been used for performances of gagaku, noh, kyogen, kabuki, sumo and other arts.
The best place to get a good view of the entire hall and stage is from the "Okunoin" (inner sanctuary), located just past the main hall.
You can see the stage of Kiyomizu to your right, beautiful trees below, and the city of Kyoto beyond.
