◾️ The main hall of Kiyomizu-dera Temple is known for Kuryuki's "Jumping off the Kiyomizu Stage." The cliff on which the hall is built has a legend similar to an Indian story in which Kannon appeared on a cliff. The stage that juts out into the air has long been used for performances of gagaku, noh, kyogen, kabuki, sumo and other arts. The best place to get a good view of the entire hall and stage is from the "Okunoin" (inner sanctuary), located just past the main hall. You can see the stage of Kiyomizu to your right, beautiful trees below, and the city of Kyoto beyond.
